SMB Designs provide a range of technical services to M&E Contractors, Consulting Engineers and Main Contractors, supporting and managing BIM services to the construction process for commercial, healthcare, education, entertainment and mixed use projects.
Our primary core business is taking the consulting engineers outline design and producing fully co-ordinated MEP working drawings derived from our 3D Revit MEP models, indicating multi-services for plant rooms, ceiling voids/modules, pre-fabricated corridors and building risers. Typically, we are appointed at the early stage of the construction phase so it is significant that we understand exactly what level of detail is required by the client. Through pre-contract workshops and review of the project BIM execution plan (BEP) we are able to ascertain the extent of scope of asset data required at handover (COBie data drop 4) so that all operation & maintenance details for managed assets are provided.
We offer a full management & support service upon appointment and liaise directly with nominated members of the professional team. We work closely with the design team & information manager to establish as early as possible what level of detail (LOD) & BIM systems are required for each project. Through fully understanding the Employers Information Requirements (EIR) through a detailed BIM execution plan (BEP) we are able to contribute to project protocols, information/documentation format requirements and how to best to deliver MEP BIM deliverables.
We have the capability to adopt any project specific Common Data Environment (CDE) for integration of our BIM model to share data information efficiently between all members of the project team. Project data is managed through the CDE that is used to collect, manage, and disseminate all relevant approved project documents for the multidisciplinary teams. We have extensive experience in various electronic document management systems (EDMS) which ensures effective synchronisation through collaborative workflows for data exchange.
Whilst we appreciate the significance of creating 3D virtual designs we do not overlook the importance of our core discipline in production of detailed working drawings for site installation.
We have developed our Revit MEP template for best practice within the 3D environment, focusing on creating a comprehensive library of specific MEP system types and manufacturers items so that our Revit models represent actual spatial & component installation.
SMB Designs company software standards have been developed specifically for MEP co-ordination BIM compliant 3D models to allow the best end product for our clients working drawings & data capture. We have ensured the highest standards possible for MEP layout visibility so that combined services drawings are clearly legible for site installation.
We are fully aware of our project role & deliverables for BIM maturity level 2 compliance and have developed our company standards to align with guidelines & British Standards code of practice for the UK construction market (PAS 1192 & BS 1192).
Generated from our 3D co-ordination models we can offer clash detection, fly/walkthroughs, animated presentation visualisations & scheduling. Using BIM authorising technology and clash detection software results in increased accuracy and visualisation, underpinning the significant benefits of BIM modelling. MEP Revit co-ordination models enables infinite 3D visualisations, sections, elevations & builders work details whilst offering parametric data for single service M, E, PH & layouts & scheduling.
